Event Description: OUR OBJECTIVE: To mobilize grassroots support for nuclear disarmament towards a real solution at the UN 2010 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review during May of 2010. Join us for 90 minutes of speakers and performers from around the world to carry the message: No Nukes, No Wars, Fund Human Needs, Protect the Planet. Speakers and musicians include the mayors of Hiroshima and Nagasaki – Mayor Akiba and Mayor Taue; Nadine Padilla, activist addressing uranium mining in Native American communities; Kimura Hisako, survivor of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima; Raed Jarrar, Iraqi blogger and political analyst; Maryam Shansab, Afghan activist; Pierre Djédji Amondji, Governor of the district of Abidjan in Ivory Coast; Tatsumaki, rock band from Nagasaki; The Recipe, spoken word duo from Kansas City, MO. Assembly for the rally will begin at 1:30 PM. The lead contingent (7th ave between 41st and 42nd Streets) will include international organizations, youth & students, labor, veterans and military families, and immigrant organizations. General assembly will be on 7th Ave south of 41st.

Event Description: On May 19, 2010, at 7:00 PM, the Ride of Silence will begin in North America and roll across the globe. Cyclists will take to the roads in a silent procession to honor cyclists who have been killed or injured while cycling on public roadways. Although cyclists have a legal right to share the road with motorists, the motoring public often isn't aware of these rights, and sometimes not aware of the cyclists themselves. In 2003, Chris Phelan organized the first Ride of Silence in Dallas after endurance cyclist Larry Schwartz was hit by the mirror of a passing bus and was killed.
